Job Description
Overview:
Nursery Pest Scout is responsible for monitoring the greenhouse growing area and crop, checking for signs and symptoms of pests and diseases. This position will implement measures and apply biological controls to minimize the risk of damage to a plant and its fruit, and ensure quality produce is available to meet company standards.
Here's what you'll do:
- Monitoring and scouting of pests and diseases
- Reporting and drawing data of infestation, infection and deficiency levels on frequency set by Production Manager
- Monitor efficiency of products used for control measures through method determined by PM
- Verification of pest and disease infestation trends
- Execute on all biological programs as set by PM
- Assisting in trials on new products for pest control within the nursery
- Procurement and ordering of all materials needed under supervision of P.M. for scouting purposes. Includes timely orders and PO to be filled out properly
- Maintaining up to date records and reports for Nursery and County information, such as PURs, SDS sheets, and a monthly updated list of Chemicals in the storage room
- Actively participate in the execution of all sprays in and/or around the nursery as needed
- Place pick up and keep count of insect traps
- Other nursery tasks will be assigned time to time
- Actively engaged in 5S upkeep and philosophy
Qualifications

- COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption
- Pesticide Handlers Licenses desired or ability to obtain in first 2 month of work
- Good communication verbal/ written in both English and Spanish
- Ability to work alone without close supervision and in group settings with excellent teamwork attitude
- Well organized and self-starter
- Related work experience with pests desired
- Knowledge of horticultural pest and disease identification
- California Driver's License preferred
- To effectively meet the demands of the position, travel up to 50% may be required
- Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Ability to help/assist calculates for pesticide application rates
- Excellent record keeping skills
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must have manual dexterity to preform computer skills and operate equipment
Hourly Rate: $20.25
