Job Description
As the Group Health, Safety & Environmental Manager (HSE), you’ll be the driving force behind creating a safer, and more sustainable, future across NPDL. You’ll lead the development and execution of our HSE Management System, championing a safety-first mindset that protects our greatest asset—our people. This isn’t just a compliance role—it’s a leadership opportunity to embed HSE excellence into our diverse operational facilities throughout New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
You’ll inspire a culture where safety is second nature, partnering with leaders and teams at all levels to make it part of our everyday decisions and actions. Collaborating closely with our US-based parent company, The Wonderful Company, and our sister brands like FIJI Water, you’ll ensure we’re aligned, accountable, and always improving. You’ll bring your expertise and influence to the table—working with sites in multiple countries, supporting compliance with local legislation, and shaping regional policies, frameworks and standards that drive performance. You’ll also engage our suppliers, partners, and customers to deliver an end-to-end HSE focus that truly sets us apart. There is also some travel to the Pacific Islands required in this role.
What You Will Do:
- Lead the charge in HSE strategy - providing bold vision, hands-on leadership, and deep technical expertise to elevate safety across all NPDL sites and companies.
- Be the spark that ignites safety leadership and awareness at every level of the organization - from frontline teams to the boardroom.
- Take command in critical moments - lead initial responses to serious incidents and ensure swift, effective action every time.
- Own the follow-through - coordinate thorough investigations into incidents and hazards, turning learnings into action.
- Implement critical risk controls that protect our people and operations across all countries we serve.
- Coach, mentor, and empower site leaders and teams—bringing best practices to life and building a culture of continuous safety improvement.
- Stay sharp - track every update to HSE legislation across our geographies and ensure we stay ahead of the curve, using data and insights to reduce incidents and strengthen our risk management approach.
- Be our eyes and ears on the ground - assess environments, equipment, and processes to make sure we’re always operating safely and compliantly.
- Develop, implement, and update Safe Operating Procedures to manage risks and ensure team proficiency in safety, while championing and evolving HSE policies for consistency and impact.
- Tell the safety story - develop regular, insightful reporting that brings HSE performance and opportunities to life.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
- A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable, and the drive to lead with purpose and professionalism.
- A natural safety champion—you walk the talk, lead by example, and inspire a culture where safety is second nature in a multi-site environment.
- A resilient go-getter, thriving under pressure and always ready to tackle tough challenges head-on.
- A master communicator and influencer, with the ability to connect, engage, and win hearts and minds across all levels of the business.
- Proven leadership experience in senior HSE roles within logistics, transport, or other high-risk environments—you're no stranger to complexity or scale.
- Certifications in ICAM or similar incident investigation methodologies, and the confidence to lead investigations that drive real change.
- A continuous improvement powerhouse—you question the status quo and proactively seek smarter, safer, and more effective ways of working.
- Sharp analytical skills with a knack for digging into the data, pinpointing root causes, and driving impactful corrective actions.
- Tech-savvy and fluent in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)—you use systems to tell compelling stories and keep everyone aligned.
This is a full-time permanent role based in Auckland. In return we offer a challenging and stimulating environment. You will have the right to live and work in New Zealand at the time of applying. The successful candidate may be subject to undergo a Police Check and/or Pre-Employment Drug Test.
