GEAR UP Tutor
Company Description
Wonderful College Prep Academy (WCPA) is a charter network in California's Central Valley committed to providing a world-class education for all students. The Academy's mission is to graduate students prepared to earn a college degree and put them on a promising career path for life. We believe this begins with a nurturing, engaging, community-centered school environment where students develop a strong and well-rounded academic foundation. Ultimately, this will prepare generations of leaders in the Central Valley who are critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
Wonderful College Prep Academy, in partnership with Avenal and Sanger Unified School Districts, will work with 6th and 7th-grade students from four middle schools to prepare them for college. This discretionary grant program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides seven-year grants to states and partners to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school and their first year of college. GEAR UP is a federally funded Title III Grant. The Federal Department of Education website for GEAR UP is http://www2.ed.gov/programs/gearup/index.html.
