SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Water Department Supervisor I ensures that the Water Department operates efficiently and maintains water quality standards. Their main responsibilities will be all aspects of water system operation, maintenance and monitoring. Carries out Water Dept. Supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operation of Process and Domestic Water Plants at LHW, KRW and WHS.
- Carry out all daily aspects of water system operation, maintenance and monitoring.
- Supervise repairs, testing and disinfection of water infrastructure.
- Assist in upkeep of water system plans.
- Supervise collection and transportation of water samples.
- Carry out water treatment, machine monitoring and water systems.
- Monitor equipment and facilities for corrosion.
- Monitor pump motors to detect unusual noises, vibrations or excessive heat.
- Escalate any identified issues as related to the water systems infrastructure.
- Adjust and clean pump seals and packing glands and clean mechanical seals.
- Execute scheduled planned maintenance and repair of: pumps, motors, chlorinators, control valves and associated equipment.
- Safely handle, store and utilize treatment chemicals.
- Keep records for reporting purposes.
- Troubleshoot and correct minor electrical and mechanical equipment problems.
- Conduct safety inspections, follow safety rules and provide safety training.
- Troubleshoot and address water related complaints.
- Respond to water system emergencies.
- Lead type 1 and 2 problem solving activities.
- Other duties as required.
- Work nights and weekend
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Language skills
- Must be able to communicate in English both verbal and in writing. Conversational Spanish is desired, but not required.
Mathematical skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, along with computing ratios, and percentages. Knowledge of statistics is desirable.
Reasoning ability
- Must be able to apply general requirements into action as it applies to the plant.
- Should be able to work in a team environment to accomplish goals and complete projects.
Computer skills
- Ability to operate computers for time, record approval, word processing, spreadsheets and intranet/internet searches. The utilization of computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) are key.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Associate’s degree or a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Take and pass the Water Treatment 1 exam (T1 within a year).
Pay Range: $70,000 - $81,000/yr and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and condensed work areas. The employee is also exposed to dust particles.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The dust levels in the work environment are usually high. (Safety protection will be provided)
- The employee may spend 50% or more of their work hours on the plant floor
