Seasonal R&D Lab Technician

As a key member of the Research and Development team, the Lab Technician provides support in the post-harvest research projects the R&D department leads every season. This includes fruit sampling and testing, sensory evaluation, shelf-life studies, analyzing, interpreting generating data, and documentation. Lab Technician will be responsible for managing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously, executing and/or coordinating laboratory tasks to enable the laboratory to function effectively while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.

Hourly Rate: $18.00

What our Seasonal R&D Lab Technician will do:

• Learn sampling and grading techniques to conduct fruit maturity assessments.
• Perform product testing – Be comfortable using various testing equipment in the lab.
• Assist in arranging sensory evaluations and internal taste panels.
• Assist in data entry – be able to recognize trends and interpret generated data.
• Work independently or with a team
• Ensure overall Good Laboratory Practices and cleanliness.
• Execute all assigned tasks and/or testing following current or proposed procedures.
• Keep up to date with technical developments and implement procedures/technologies which can save time and improve reliability.
• Taste and smell for shelf-life studies
• Problem solve
• Attention to detail

Skills & experiences we are seeking for this role:

Being able to work with others; work efficiently with little or no supervision; understand post-harvest operations, be able to do basic math equations, speak the data that is being collected and open availability including evenings and weekends. Proficient in Microsoft Office.  Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Plant Science, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is required.
