Job Description
The Assistant Athletic Director will coordinate the athletic and wellness programs for WCPA during and after school hours. They will be a collaborative partner to ensure student activities are operational, efficient, and in compliance.
The position shall have responsibility for assisting the Athletic Director in the overall management of the Wonderful College Prep Academy Athletic Programs across all sites and leading curriculum and instruction for Physical Education.
Essential Job Functions for Assistant Athletic Director:
- Serve as the liaison for all departmental efforts as assigned by the Athletic Director.
- Assist the Athletic Director in supervising the TK-12 athletic programs including recommending policies and procedures relating to the athletic programs.
- Assist the Athletic Director in the development of an annual budget and its implementation.
- Assist the Athletic Director with the development of the interscholastic athletic schedules and officials' schedules for all contests.
- Assist the Athletic Director in the coordination of transportation for all athletic contests.
- Assist the Athletic Director in the coordination of support personnel for all athletic contests, including game management, ticket sales, security, athletic trainer, and emergency personnel and apparatus.
- Assist the Athletic Director in the supervision of the athletic coaches.
- Implement and monitor usage of the Athletic Code of Conduct.
- Assist the Athletic Director in the supervision of all contests.
- Represent the district, as needed, at conferences, Central Section, and state meetings for administering the interscholastic athletic program.
- Assist the Athletic Director in ensuring that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal laws and regulations, state laws and regulations.
- Create materials to publicize athletic and sporting events, both in printed and electronic formats, to disseminate information and foster enhanced awareness among students, staff, and the community in recognizing and supporting the school's athletic programs and attending events.
- Maintain professional relationships with media sources to provide information regarding schedules, postponements or cancellations, sporting event statistics, records, and other relevant information.
- Coordinate with others to schedule ancillary activities that occur prior to, during, and after sporting events, such as musical programs, press boxes, scorers tables, half-time programs, police coverage, ticket sales, availability of on-site medical care, concessions, custodial services, and other related activities.
- Handle all accidents and injuries in accordance with school policies, and applicable laws and regulations, including reporting and documentation requirements.
- Maintain records and documents as required and necessary to ensure proper documentation of athletic program activities, events, participation, and related information to comply with school policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.
- Responsible for carrying out all other duties assigned by the Athletic Director and/or a district administrator.
- Collaborates with school partners to promote and highlight Wellness initiatives across the schools.
- Lead on yearly state Physical Fitness Mandated testing for the state of California.
Essential Job Functions for Physical Education:
- Lead department in advancing the school’s mission and departmental goals.
- Collaborate closely with other administrators on hiring, retention, evaluation, and professional growth of physical education teaching faculty.
- Collaborate closely with other administrators and the school’s registrar to develop a cohesive physical education schedule across the school.
- Ensure cohesion and continuity of physical education curriculum paying close attention to students’ social-emotional needs in grades PK-12.
- Model cultural competence by recognizing one's own biases, actively analyzing one’s own internal belief systems, and being an effective and respectful communicator.
- Organize department meetings structured around departmental and divisional goals.
- Serve on the Department Heads group, responsible for broad curricular and instructional initiatives.
- Serve on the Academic Council, responsible for school-wide programmatic planning.
- Manage departmental budget and make decisions regarding equipment, training, and other program-driven materials.
- Communicate with parents and the wider community about the physical education department’s philosophy, vision, offerings, measures of success, challenges, etc.
- Curriculum: Assist with the development of grade-level pacing calendars, unit plans, teacher-created assessments, and interim assessments to ensure student mastery of standards, reviewing and revising materials and resources as needed.
- Coaching and Support: Provide instructional coaching of physical education teachers through routine observations and feedback, modeling, and co-teaching.
- Talent Development: Deliver high-impact ongoing professional development for new and experienced physical education teachers.

Qualifications
Qualifications: Certifications:
- Minimum six (6) years of verifiable successful experience working with school sports programs
- A minimum of two (2) years (verifiable) coaching experience is required.
- Experience as an athletic director/coordinator with large-scale student programs.
- Experience working with oversight and management of sports and after-school programs
- Experience in working with a diverse student population.
Skills, Knowledge:
- Manage personnel and programs.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Problem solve; make independent judgments.
- Knowledge of curriculum, education code, and district policies.
- Knowledge of implementation of state frameworks and appropriate instructional strategies.
- Keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and communicate in oral and written form.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Office environment; fast-paced work, constant interruptions.
- Physical requirements: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations and communicate over the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents and view computer monitors; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; ability to go to sites apart from primary office to conduct business.
Salary Range: $66,650 - $85,000. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
